This film ‘WAI IS THE YANG' dives into the untold stories of darkness and light by turning the traditional surf film on its head. Explore the weighty tales of life’s coldest moments, then feel the warm bonds of New Zealand’s best longboarders and their powerful community, with ‘WAI IS THE YANG’. Living with debilitating depression has developed in me a robust ‘tool kit’ to dip into during my dark times. I wanted to tell the story of an element I draw on more than most: the ocean and its immense power. In our film I felt it was only by experiencing a wintery darkness that we could authentically experience the other end of the spectrum: the goodness of nature and community. We need both sides of the experience. The yin needs the yang.
